- Wet the area with a solution of 50% white vinegar and 50% water. Make sure you use enough of the solution to penetrate the fibers deep down. After the vinegar treatment dry off the carpet as much as possible. You can assist drying by blotting with paper towels as described above. If you own a wet/dry vacuum extractor use that to remove excess moisture.
- Apply a handful of baking soda over the affected area. Mix a quarter of a cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide with a teaspoon of liquid dishwashing detergent and drizzle this solution over the baking soda. Alternatively you can use a spray bottle for the hydrogen peroxide solution.
- Work it well into the carpet with a scrubbing brush, tooth brush or your fingers. Allow to dry. Once completely dry vacuum up the dried baking soda. Use a hard bristled brush to loosen up the baking soda if necessary. You can assist drying with a heater or a fan.
This tip really does work.

Wow, it’s a good tip. I was searching for the easiest solution for a long time. I heard of these things for carpet cleaning but I didn’t know that in which proportion I should mix it. Now I’ll try it out and hope it will work for me. Thanks for giving this information.

Nothing beats the magic of good `ol vinegar. The liquid dishwasher is also an ingenious way to rival the smell of vinegar. To make the carpet cleaner, you can try using hot water for your DIY steam cleaner.

Cleanliness is essential for every living and non-living thing. Carpets too require regular care and maintenance from their owners. People generally spend a quite lot of money on high quality carpets. When carpets are cleaned on a regular basis then they stay as good as new for a long time. Another important motive behind cleaning the carpets is to maintain a healthy atmosphere at home or work. A dirty carpet is bound to develop an uneasy atmosphere. It is advised that the carpet cleaning job must be done at regular intervals of six months.
